TTYA is The One to Watch

Every fashion show there is designer that is declared as one to watch and this year at Lagos Fashion Week, there were many. Designers to keep your eye on include at this year’s show include Style Temple, Clan and Aso Okay. However, the standout newbie on the runway this year was TTYA. Already famous in the UK whose dresses selling online in stores such as Asos. It’s easy to see why TTYA stood out from the crowd.

Inspired by her Nigerian and british heritage, TTYA’s creator and designer Irene Agbontaen combines African fabrics with her signature street style. Designed especially for tall women like the 6ft designer herself, who has also designed collections of merchandise for Nigerian artists such as Tiwa Savage and Wizkid tours. The runway show featured the beautiful upcoming Nigerian model Aduke Shitta Bey, who sported a golden two-piece ruffled top and matching wrap skirt. Many of her pieces were inspired by her love for street wear and featured this season’s popular snake print. Her rapid success isn’t just due to combining traditional and modern, it also lies in her unique collaborations. To date she’s joined forces with the bold Nigerian athleisure brand Beardedgenius, working with them on a unique bag collection and also with Daily Paper to produce a hat line. She’s one of the few Nigeria’s emerging brands who are able to pair traditional African styles with European fashion, making for a truly unique style. We can’t wait to see what she does next.
