Updated: Nov 3, 2018

The African creative scene has received international acclaim this year, including praise from British Vogue. Naomi Campbell in reflection of her visit to Nigeria’s Arise Fashion week earlier this year, advocated for an African Vogue magazine.

“I feel like Africa, as a continent, is on the tip of explosion. It’s the next destination, and it needs a broader platform. I am going to help them get it. It’s more than overdue. There needs to be an African Vogue. It’s time.” (Vogue, 2018)

All eyes are on the continent again this week as the second fashion week of the year in Nigeria kicks off; the newly re-branded, Lagos Fashion Week. To commemorate the four-day event, Suzy Menkes interviews with Fashion Veteran designer Folake Folarin-Coker, the designer behind the Tiffany Amber. Menkes gains more insight into the African fashion industry through the designer, who has ignited the interest of the world in African style and her successful brand.
